Additional information worth notice
Only the combined footprint of each individual school and hard-standing area can be used on each individual site for the building of residential homes, but not necessarily in the position were the schools or car parks once stood. I understand this to mean that if, for instance, site 1 original buildings and hard-standing combined equated to 25m x 25m, and a house was 5m x 5m the developer could only build 25 new homes, on that piece of land.

The land to the front of site 1, opposite the Harrowgate Workmen’s club, from the railings inward 45m and the full length of the iron railings 90m can not be built upon and is excluded from the sale of land.

It is this piece of the the Friends of the Hill are looking to adopt and convert into a Community Garden. Their plans already include;

  • > Cobbled look paving
  • > Old style Lanterns (possibly solar)
  • > Memorial seating, sculptures and tree planting - sculptures chainsaw from tree trunks
  • > Bedding areas – residents can plant potted plants which have out grown their pots
  • > Restoration of railings (a a project for a group of students from eVolution plan to paint these railing)
  • > New entrance – with name of garden over entrance
  • > School’s competition for gardens new name
  • > New fencing to rear
  • > Container to keep any equipment in
  • > School involvement to decorate container
  • > Fruit trees
  • > Cast iron bin and dog waste collection points and raised planting beds for the Gateway Club
  • > Rain water collection drums and garden waste recycling
  • > Ride on petrol lawnmower
  •  >Various gardening tools
  • > Localised CCTV – not linked to town hall – remote hard drive recording (solar)
