The cast iron grates surrounding the trees along North Road (from Longfield Road to the White Horse public house) are to be lifted today (Wednesday 03 June 09), cleared of debris and rubbish and re-set giving a much nicer appearance to the area as you walk along the footpath.
You may have also noticed that one of the tree's here has died; this is believed to be the result of some flooding on the footpath. The tree is to be replaced in November and at the same time workmen will investigate the flooding issue as it may be related to how the pit for the tree was dug in the first place. |

The walk way from North Road to Marina Road has now been litter picked, swept and de-weeded and looks much better for all who use it. It has been a bit of a problem area were Street Scene can not access with a mechanical sweeper - but new methods and resources have been put in place to keep the walk way looking much cleaner. |

Entrance to the Drinkfield Marsh
Darlington Borough Coulcil's habitat management team, working with the Rangers, are to carry out boundary improvements today. This includes the replacement of steps, at the Washbrooke end of Drinkfield Marsh from Harrowgate Farm estate. These will be much more user friendly, with more steps added and resurfaced. This entrance will be fully useable by Thursday 28th. The team will also be adding posts to plug gaps in the boundary around the site to prevent motorcycles entering which are still a problem at present. The boardwalk entrance is waiting for a metal kissing gate and bespoke additions to ensure this tricky entrance is made disabled friendly but secure as well. This may take a few weeks to arrive on site. Kirkfield Bollards
An order has been placed for 8 bollards, 4 for either side of Kirkfield Road, to help deter parking on the grass verge near the junction of Longfield Road and they are expected to be completed in the next 20 days. Cllr. M Burton |
