North RoadThe cast iron grates surrounding the trees along North Road (from Longfield Road to the White Horse public house) are to be lifted today (Wednesday 03 June 09), cleared of debris and rubbish and re-set giving a much nicer appearance to the area as you walk along the footpath.

You may have also noticed that one of the tree's here has died; this is believed to be the result of some flooding on the footpath. The tree is to be replaced in November and at the same time workmen will investigate the flooding issue as it may be related to how the pit for the tree was dug in the first place.

Clear Cut

Clear CutThe walk way from North Road to Marina Road has now been litter picked, swept and de-weeded and looks much better for all who use it. It has been a bit of a problem area were Street Scene can not access with a mechanical sweeper - but new methods and resources have been put in place to keep the walk way looking much cleaner.

Drinkfield marshEntrance to the Drinkfield Marsh

Darlington Borough Coulcil's habitat management team, working with the Rangers, are to carry out boundary improvements today. This includes the replacement of steps, at the Washbrooke end of Drinkfield Marsh from Harrowgate Farm estate. These will be much more user friendly, with more steps added and resurfaced. This entrance will be fully useable by Thursday 28th.

The team will also be adding posts to plug gaps in the boundary around the site to prevent motorcycles entering which are still a problem at present.

The boardwalk entrance is waiting for a metal kissing gate and bespoke additions to ensure this tricky entrance is made disabled friendly but secure as well. This may take a few weeks to arrive on site.

Kirkfield RoadKirkfield Bollards

An order has been placed for 8 bollards, 4 for either side of Kirkfield Road, to help deter parking on the grass verge near the junction of Longfield Road and they are expected to be completed in the next 20 days.

Harrowgate Farm Play Area
I’ve received complaints about the condition of the play area. The fence surrounding the play area is down, there’s broken glass and litter and the bins are overflowing. I’ve rang Street Scene today and on Thursday morning the area is to be litter picked and the bins are to be emptied too. The fence is the responsibility of Wimpy and I’ll include some information for you in the next edition of the Little Red Rosette about that.

Beaumont Hill

All three planning application have been granted. Building works are set to commence this March.

Public Inquiry - Shepherd
The Planning Inspectorate has agreed to a postponement of the above Inquiry at the request of the site owners until the 27th April as a result of the former owner's death. [Mr Blair]

Bensham Park

Work is now set to commence there during the first week of March. £30k is to be invested on the play area providing more inclusive play and new equipment.

Dog Dirt
I've received a number of complaints with regards to walkers not clearing up after their dogs. Yesterday Street Scene swept the pavements of Harrowgate Farm and next week the whole area is to be blitzed by the dog wardens. I'd like to see owners clearing up after their dogs rather than see fines being given out - please clear up after your dogs!

Local Burglary

A burglary took place last Friday afternoon in a house near to The Leas Bakery.  Access was obtained by breaking a rear double glazed window.  Please be aware and to take extra care - It appears the snow and ice does not deter burglars.

Green Lane (also known as Bridleway 21)
Will be closed from Wednesday 25th January 2010 for approximately 2 months, to allow drainage to be improved and for surface maintenance.
